The Multimedia Grant project has a long history of supporting educational initiatives for Ohioans. This project is a joint initiative among Broadcast Educational Media Commission (BEMC), the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), and Ohio's Public Television Stations.

BEMC is proud to announce new releases for August 2021. These video series were developed during the 2020-2021 year.

Drawing with Mr. J - Season 2

Drawing with Mr. J is a video series from WOSU Classroom that helps kids in grades K–5 learn social and emotional skills through brief but engaging drawing challenges. All you need is something to draw with and something to draw on!  Each video comes complete with a standards-aligned companion guide containing activities and resources for educators and parents. The videos can be worked into a variety of lesson plans, be used as a morning warm-up, or a way to check in with students after lunch or other transition times.

Beginning Balance: Financial Literacy - Season 2

Let’s start a conversation about Budgeting, Savings, and Filing Taxes. Beginning Balance explores topics every high schooler should understand upon graduating. These complex topics are broken down with conversational language guided by field experts and presented in a graphical-based approach.

NewsDepth: Spot on Science

Ideastream produced a “Spot on Science” series on social and emotional learning to run within Ideastream’s weekly program for children NewsDepth. The 3-5 minute segments will focus on bullying, sleep, and stress.
Audience: students in grades 4-6
These segments will air during autumn of the 2021-2022 season.  Segments will be posted online in coordination with television airtime on PBS.

Social –Emotional Learning (SEL) for Educators

The “Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) for Educators” is a two-part series about educator self-care featuring Dr. James Rowley and Dr. Aly Waibel. The first video, "SEL for Teachers: Teacher Stress and Burnout" describes the often conflicting demands on teachers and why so many educators burn out and even leave the profession they love. The second video, "SEL for Teachers: The Role of Mindfulness" describes the way teachers can calm down and re-set, even in the midst of a stressful situation.
